More Gargoyles at Princeton (Little Hall)

I spent the day today (last day of 2011!), a beautiful day, at the quiet and peaceful university visiting the gargoyles.  And of course had to take more photos.  These are all primarily from Little Hall.  In fact, all around Little Hall.  They are simply amazing.  With a few others enroute to Little Hall.  Most are pretty high on the Hall so a long lense is needed with a tripod.  They are gorgeous creatures of all kinds, shapes and contortions.  Enjoy!

The figures on the corners can be difficult to shoot because of the difference in lighting at different angles.  And some are hiding.  It is easy to see that these gargoyles could be a distraction when running from one class to another.

What craftsmanship in these complex figures!  And because of their precarious position on the buildings, it is hard to imagine how one could sculpt these precious figures with such detail and glory.

I would really like to know the stories behind each of these gargoyles.

Who designed these elaborate figures and what story do they tell.

And yes, in fact, we can see that some of these grotesque and ornamental figures are obvious gargoyles!

It is definitely worth taking the time to walk around the gargoyles to view them from each possible viewing position.

A perfect way to spend the afternoon on December 31st, 2011.  Thank you, Princeton University, for the splendid campus architecture and ornamental details.
